ILS (Instrument Landing System)
Definition
A precision approach system that provides lateral and vertical guidance to aircraft during approach and landing in low-visibility conditions. Consists of a localizer and glideslope.

RNAV (Area Navigation)
A navigation method that allows aircraft to fly on any desired flight path without being limited to ground-based navigation aids. Uses GPS, DME, or inertial reference systems.
Missed Approach
A published procedure followed when a pilot cannot complete an instrument approach to landing, requiring a climb to a specified altitude and navigation to a holding point.
Landing
The phase of flight in which an aircraft descends and makes contact with the runway surface. Involves approach, flare, touchdown, and rollout to decelerate to taxi speed.
