关于 Amsterdam Airport Schiphol
Amsterdam Airport Schiphol is the primary international airport of the Netherlands and one of the busiest airports in Europe. Located in the municipality of Haarlemmermeer, approximately 9 kilometers southwest of Amsterdam, Schiphol sits on the site of a former lake bed at approximately four meters below sea level, making it one of the lowest-elevation major airports in the world. The airport opened in 1916 as a military airfield and has evolved into a facility handling over 62 million passengers annually. Schiphol's single-terminal concept consolidates all departure and arrival operations under one roof, organized around a central plaza called Schiphol Plaza, with three departure halls and numerous piers extending outward. The airport is the primary hub for KLM Royal Dutch Airlines and serves as a key node in the SkyTeam alliance network. Schiphol is directly connected to Amsterdam Centraal station by frequent train service with a journey time of approximately 15 minutes, and offers direct rail connections to other Dutch cities and international destinations. The airport operates six runways and is known for its efficient transfer operations, enabling connections between European feeder flights and long-haul intercontinental services. Schiphol houses a branch of the Rijksmuseum and an airport library, contributing to its reputation for passenger experience.
