About Mohammed V International Airport
Mohammed V International Airport is the busiest airport in Morocco, serving the city of Casablanca and the surrounding economic region. Located in Nouasseur, approximately 30 kilometers south of Casablanca city center, the airport opened in 1955 during the French protectorate era and was originally known as Nouasseur Air Base. CMN handles over 10 million passengers annually across two terminals. Terminal 1 serves the majority of international carriers, while Terminal 2, which opened in 2014, was built to accommodate the growing demand and serves Royal Air Maroc's expanding route network. The airport is the primary hub for Royal Air Maroc, Morocco's flag carrier and a member of the oneworld alliance, which operates extensive services to destinations across Africa, Europe, the Middle East, and North America. Mohammed V International is connected to Casablanca by a dedicated rail service operated by ONCF, with trains running from the airport station to Casa Voyageurs in approximately 30 minutes. The airport operates two runways. Morocco's strategic position at the northwest tip of Africa, bridging Europe and sub-Saharan Africa, has enabled Casablanca to develop as an important connecting hub, particularly for travel between West Africa and European destinations. The airport is named after Mohammed V, the former sultan and king of Morocco who played a central role in the country's independence movement.
