About Noi Bai International Airport

Noi Bai International Airport is the largest airport in northern Vietnam, serving Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam. Located in Soc Son District, approximately 25 kilometers north of the Hanoi city center, the airport was originally a military airfield and began civilian operations in the 1970s. HAN handles over 30 million passengers per year. Terminal 2, which opened in 2014, is a modern Japanese-designed facility that handles all international flights and features architecture inspired by Vietnamese cultural motifs, with a sweeping curved roof resembling a traditional ao dai garment. Terminal 1 serves domestic flights operated by Vietnam Airlines, VietJet Air, Bamboo Airways, and other local carriers. Noi Bai is the primary hub for Vietnam Airlines, the national carrier, which operates extensive networks across Asia, Europe, and Australia. The airport is connected to the city center by the Nhat Tan Bridge expressway, which significantly reduced travel times to approximately 30 minutes. Public bus routes including the 86 Express provide affordable transportation between the airport and Hanoi Old Quarter. The airport operates two runways and a third is planned to accommodate growing traffic. Noi Bai serves as the primary gateway for tourists visiting Hanoi, Ha Long Bay, Sapa, and other destinations in northern Vietnam, and its continued expansion reflects the rapid growth of Vietnam's tourism and business sectors.
