About Phnom Penh International Airport
Phnom Penh International Airport is the main international airport serving Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia. Located approximately 10 kilometers west of the city center, the airport was originally constructed during the French colonial period in the 1930s and has been progressively upgraded and expanded. PNH handles over 6 million passengers per year from a terminal complex that includes both domestic and international facilities. A new terminal completed in recent years significantly expanded capacity and modernized the passenger experience with improved check-in facilities, retail areas, and a design incorporating traditional Khmer architectural elements. The airport serves Cambodia Angkor Air, the national carrier, as well as a growing number of regional and international airlines connecting Phnom Penh to destinations across Southeast Asia, East Asia, and the Middle East. Major carriers including Thai Airways, Singapore Airlines, Korean Air, and China Southern Airlines operate regular services. Ground transportation to the city center is primarily by taxi, tuk-tuk, and ride-hailing services, with the journey taking approximately 30 minutes depending on traffic conditions. The airport operates a single runway. A brand new replacement airport, Techo Takhmau International Airport, is under construction approximately 30 kilometers south of Phnom Penh and is expected to become the country's primary international gateway upon completion. Cambodia's growing tourism sector, anchored by the Angkor Wat temple complex in Siem Reap, and increasing foreign investment drive steady growth in air traffic through Phnom Penh.
