About Václav Havel Airport Prague
Vaclav Havel Airport Prague is the primary international airport of the Czech Republic, located in the Ruzyne district, approximately 17 kilometers west of Prague city center. The airport opened in 1937 and was renamed in 2012 in honor of Vaclav Havel, the former Czech president, playwright, and leading figure of the Velvet Revolution. PRG handles over 17 million passengers per year across three terminals. Terminal 1 handles non-Schengen international flights, Terminal 2 serves Schengen-area destinations, and Terminal 3 is used for private aviation and charter flights. The airport serves as a base for Czech Airlines and Smartwings, and hosts a wide range of European and international carriers. Ryanair and Wizz Air have expanded their presence at the airport significantly in recent years, reflecting the growth of low-cost travel to and from Central Europe. Ground transportation to the city center is primarily by the Airport Express bus to Prague Main Station, taking approximately 35 minutes, and by public transit bus lines connecting to the Prague Metro. A planned rail link would provide direct train service to the city center. Prague Airport operates two parallel runways and has expanded its terminal capacity to accommodate growing tourism demand, as Prague has become one of the most visited cities in Europe, renowned for its medieval architecture, historic Old Town, and vibrant cultural scene.
