About Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport
Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport is the primary international airport serving Taipei and the largest airport in Taiwan. Located in Dayuan District, Taoyuan City, approximately 40 kilometers southwest of Taipei city center, the airport opened in 1979 as Chiang Kai-shek International Airport and was renamed in 2006 to reflect its geographic location. TPE handles over 48 million passengers per year across two terminals. Terminal 1 has been extensively renovated to improve passenger facilities, while Terminal 2 was expanded with additional capacity. A third terminal is under construction to meet growing demand. The airport serves as the primary hub for China Airlines, EVA Air, and Starlux Airlines, all of which offer extensive networks across East Asia, Southeast Asia, North America, Europe, and Oceania. EVA Air and China Airlines are both members of the Star Alliance and SkyTeam alliance respectively, giving Taoyuan strong connectivity for transfer passengers. The Taoyuan Airport MRT provides direct service from the airport to Taipei Main Station in approximately 35 minutes, with both express and commuter services available. The airport operates two parallel runways. Taoyuan's position on the western coast of Taiwan and the competitive service quality of its hub carriers have established it as a significant transfer point for traffic between Northeast Asia and Southeast Asia. The airport is known for its efficient operations, modern duty-free shopping, and convenient transit options.
