road crossing
Gibraltar International Airport's runway is intersected by Winston Churchill Avenue, the main road connecting Gibraltar to Spain.
Explanation
Every time an aircraft takes off or lands at Gibraltar, traffic barriers close Winston Churchill Avenue and vehicles must wait, similar to a railway crossing. The runway is just 1,672 meters long and juts out into the sea on reclaimed land. The unique setup exists because Gibraltar is a small territory with extremely limited space.
