Many Airlines Skip Row 13

13

row number skipped

Many airlines including Lufthansa, Air France, and Ryanair skip row 13 on their aircraft due to the superstition that the number is unlucky.

Explanation

Triskaidekaphobia, the fear of the number 13, is common enough that numerous airlines choose to avoid the row number entirely. Some airlines also skip row 17 (considered unlucky in Italy and Brazil) or row 4 (unlucky in East Asian cultures because it sounds like the word for death). The practice has no safety implications but helps airlines avoid complaints from superstitious passengers.
