Quito's location at 0.11 degrees south latitude places it almost exactly on the equator. The airport is also notable for its high elevation at 2,400 meters above sea level. Several smaller airstrips in equatorial countries sit even closer to the line, but Quito is the most significant international airport near this geographic marker.
