The Boeing 747 made its first commercial flight on January 22, 1970, ushering in the era of wide-body aircraft and mass air travel.

Erläuterung

Pan Am inaugurated 747 service between New York JFK and London Heathrow. The aircraft's twin-aisle cabin could seat over 400 passengers, more than double the capacity of the largest jets at the time. The 747 made international air travel affordable for the middle class and remained the largest commercial aircraft for 37 years until the Airbus A380.
