Sauerstoffmasken liefern 12–22 Minuten Luft

12-22

minutes

The emergency oxygen masks in a passenger aircraft provide only 12 to 22 minutes of breathable air, which is enough time for pilots to descend to safe altitude.

Erläuterung

Passenger oxygen masks use chemical oxygen generators that produce oxygen through a chemical reaction triggered when the mask is pulled. The limited duration is intentional: if cabin pressure is lost, pilots will immediately descend to below 10,000 feet where the air is breathable without supplemental oxygen. This emergency descent typically takes 3-5 minutes from cruising altitude.
