1993
year
The FAA approved the first GPS-based instrument approach procedure in 1993, beginning the satellite navigation revolution in aviation.
विवरण
GPS approaches allow aircraft to navigate precisely to runways without ground-based navigation aids like ILS or VOR. This was particularly transformative for small airports that could not justify the cost of installing instrument landing systems. Today, GPS-based approaches outnumber traditional approaches at US airports, and WAAS-enhanced GPS provides near-ILS precision.
