Chứng nhận ETOPS đầu tiên cho máy bay hai động cơ qua đại dương

1985

year

In 1985, the FAA granted the first ETOPS (Extended Twin-Engine Operations) certification, allowing twin-engine aircraft to fly oceanic routes previously restricted to three- and four-engine planes.

Before ETOPS, twin-engine aircraft had to remain within 60 minutes of a diversion airport, effectively barring them from transoceanic routes. The initial ETOPS-120 rating (120 minutes from a diversion airport) applied to the Boeing 767. This landmark decision eventually led to ETOPS-370 ratings for modern aircraft like the Airbus A350, enabling twin-engine jets to replace less fuel-efficient four-engine aircraft on virtually all routes.
