Der Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport ist der verkehrsreichste Flughafen der Welt nach Passagieraufkommen mit über 93 Millionen Reisenden jährlich. Etwa 11 Kilometer südlich der Innenstadt von Atlanta, Georgia, gelegen, hält der Flughafen diesen Titel seit 1998. ATL geht auf eine stillgelegte Autorennstrecke zurück, die 1925 in einen Flugplatz umgewandelt wurde. Die aktuelle Anlage umfasst ein Inlandsterminal mit vier Concourses und ein internationales Terminal mit einem Concourse, alle verbunden durch den unterirdischen automatischen People Mover namens The Plane Train. Der Flughafen dient als Hauptdrehkreuz von Delta Air Lines, die den Großteil der Flüge durchführt und etwa 75 Prozent des gesamten Passagieraufkommens ausmacht. ATL ist über das MARTA-Schienensystem mit der Innenstadt von Atlanta verbunden, mit einer direkten Zugfahrt von etwa 20 Minuten. Die zentrale geografische Lage im Südosten der USA macht den Flughafen zu einem effizienten Umsteigepunkt für Flüge zwischen dem Nordosten, dem Mittleren Westen und Zielen in der Karibik und Lateinamerika.
