About John F. Kennedy International Airport
John F. Kennedy International Airport, located in Queens, New York City, is one of the busiest and most important international gateways in the United States. Named after the 35th President, JFK opened in 1948 as New York International Airport and has since grown into a major hub serving over 60 million passengers annually. The airport features six terminals, with Terminal 1 and the new Terminal One currently undergoing a $9.5 billion modernization project. JFK serves as a primary hub for Delta Air Lines and JetBlue Airways, and hosts operations from virtually every major international carrier. The airport is well connected to Manhattan via the AirTrain JFK to Jamaica Station, where passengers can transfer to the Long Island Rail Road or subway. JFK is particularly known for its extensive network of transatlantic and transpacific routes, making it the premier gateway between North America, Europe, and Asia.
