About Chicago O'Hare International Airport
O'Hare International Airport, located on the northwest side of Chicago, Illinois, is one of the busiest airports in the world by aircraft movements and a critical hub for domestic and international travel in the central United States. Originally built as a manufacturing plant for Douglas C-54 aircraft during World War II, the site was converted to a commercial airport in 1944 and named after Edward "Butch" O'Hare, a U.S. Navy aviator and Medal of Honor recipient. The airport currently operates four terminals with nine concourses and is undergoing the O'Hare 21 expansion program, a multi-billion-dollar project to add new terminals and modernize existing facilities. O'Hare serves as the primary hub for United Airlines and American Airlines, handling over 83 million passengers per year. The airport is connected to downtown Chicago via the CTA Blue Line, which provides 24-hour rail service with a journey time of approximately 45 minutes. O'Hare is known for its role as a major connecting hub, with an extensive domestic network that links smaller cities across the Midwest to international destinations worldwide.
