About Orlando International Airport
Orlando International Airport is the busiest airport in Florida and a major gateway for tourism to Central Florida's theme parks and attractions. MCO, whose code derives from the facility's former name McCoy Air Force Base, opened as a commercial airport in 1976 and currently handles over 57 million passengers per year. The airport features a main terminal with four airside concourses connected by automated people movers, plus the new Terminal C, which opened in 2022 as a $2.8 billion expansion adding 15 gates for domestic and international flights. MCO serves as a focus city for JetBlue Airways, Southwest Airlines, and Spirit Airlines, and hosts service from virtually every major U.S. and international carrier. The Brightline high-speed rail service connects the airport to Miami, West Palm Beach, and other South Florida destinations. The SunRail commuter rail also serves the airport area. Orlando International is a predominantly origin-and-destination airport, with most travelers visiting Walt Disney World, Universal Orlando Resort, and other Central Florida attractions. The airport's international terminal handles flights from Europe, Latin America, and Canada, with particularly strong seasonal service from the United Kingdom and Brazil.
